If you want to insure a car that isn't registered to your identification number (kennitala), you need to become a co-owner of the car. Verna MGA offers you to file for co-registration in the app.
How to file for co-registration of a car:
Get the Verna app through the App Store or Google Play Store.
Enter your phone number and email and identify yourself with an electronic ID or the Auðkenni app.
Follow the instructions on what settings you need for your phone. The instructions can be found here.
You look up the license plate number of the car you want to insure.
Check out all the packages we have to offer along with prices. To navigate between packages you can drag them from side to side ☺️ To view each package in more detail, click the [i] button in the upper right corner to see more information about the package.
Then it's time for the co-owner registration. You start by signing your half of the co-owner document with electronic IDs.
Once you have signed the document, the registered owner of the car must sign his half of it, the co-owner document, as well as a termination letter to the current insurance company.
The app creates personalised messages with links to a page where the owner can sign the documents with an electronic ID, so all you have to do is send the message via SMS, Facebook or however you want to send it!
You complete the purchase of the insurance in the app. The insurance does not start until the owner of the car finishes signing the documents, the Transport Office (Samgöngustofa) approves the registration and the notice period with the current insurance company has expired.
Although the insurance has not become active, you can start using the app and collect your driving score immediately! Instructions regarding the app can be found here.
Does co-owner registration cost anything?
Yes, co-owner registration costs money, you can find more information about the payment here on the Transports Office website.
