When taking a vehicle abroad, it is important to consider its insurance coverage, as the insurance does not automatically apply outside of Iceland.
The Green Card is proof of a valid vehicle's liability insurance. The vehicle’s liability insurance is valid in Iceland and other member states of the European Economic Area (EEA). The card is also valid in other countries, but it is essential to check where the liability insurance applies before traveling.
Please note that Verna’s comprehensive (kaskó) insurance does not apply abroad.
If the vehicle in question has an existing loan/financing agreement with a financing company, a written confirmation must be obtained from the company stating that it is permitted to take the vehicle out of the country. This confirmation must be presented when applying for a Green Card.
The Green Card is valid for the vehicle’s insurance period and cannot be renewed if the vehicle has been abroad for X months.
The Green Card is issued by Verna and can be collected at our office at Ármúli 13 or sent via email.
